The NJ50 series combines the good old with the best of the most recent. This 15 inch notebook comes optionally with an internal optical disc drive for reading and writing CDs and DVDs. Also, the laptop has something else that you don’t see often anymore at modern laptops: a VGA port for connecting an external analog display. Nevertheless, this fast laptop uses an 11th generation Intel Core processor and therefore offers the performance of a modern computer. The 15 inch screen display has excellent color contrasts and the keyboard illumination makes the laptop attractive for everyday work.

This entry-level laptop has all the makings of a great laptop. Compared to my equivalent pro laptop (from a well-known American brand with a cow logo), this PC :
– is much more comfortable (anti-glare matte screen vs. glossy, numeric keypad vs. nothing),
– have a lot of built-in connectivity (3xUSB, 1 USB-C, HDMI, VGA, RJ45, analog speaker and microphone connectors vs. 3xUSB-C only): to connect all your current peripherals (mouse, printer, wired network, removable hard drive, overhead projector, dual screen, etc.) without needing of any spare adapters; it has even a built-in CD/DVD burner for all my CD and DVDs !
– have many possibilities of hardware upgrade, 7 years of availability on its components, including for batteries (good for the planet 😉 ), 3 years of warranty, etc.
– have a very attractive price ( 900€ vs. 2500€ ) and a very short delivery time (1 week vs. 3 months ).
– proposed with Linux installed (it’s free!) or Windows (+ 69€), but incompatible with the MAC OS; this is its only drawback.
A very efficient laptop for nomads workers who spend long hours in front of the screen; I recommended this brand and this supplier (NovaCustom) to my IT department.

It’s a great all around laptop. Sure you can go to a big chain store like Best Buy and get a similar/ better specked laptop for much cheaper. However new laptops are locked down making it difficult to install a different operating system on it, and becoming unnecessary difficult to open to fix something in it or to upgrade a component. If something breaks on it forget about buying replacement parts from the manufacturer and reliably finding parts elsewhere. This is like my old HP Pavilion a few screws, a few clips, and you’re in. Meanwhile my brother’s new laptop is glued together and one wrong move and you sever the display cable.
With that in mind you get an excellent warranty on the battery and parts. (1 year for the battery, and 3 for the hardware) Plus up to 7 years of guaranteed replacement parts being available. You don’t get that from the big companies like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.. To me those alone make up for the higher cost. This is the business model the big tech manufacturers should be following if they REALLY were trying to be environmentally friendly. Not “ReCyClE aNd BuY a NeW oNe.”
The only critique I have is I wish the software for the back lights on the keyboard had an option to cycle the RGB or having a breathing effect (obviously that’s outside of Nova’s control).
I’m really glad I stumbled across Nova Custom from doing a late night rabbit hole about CubesOS and custom /privacy laptops.

Und man kann im Gegensatz zu Notebooks anderer namhafter Hersteller den Akku tauschen und ist nicht fest verbaut!
