What is DDR4 memory and for what purpose is it used?

The difference between DDR3 and DDR4 memory

RAM memory, also known as memory, is an indispensable component for laptops and computers. Data is temporarily stored on it. There are different types of memory. The memory of a laptop is often SODIMM, while computer’s memory uses a DIMM slot. This indicates the physical size of the memory. SODIMM is not compatible with DIMM, and vice versa.

In addition to physical size, there are other differences in memory. At the moment, DDR3 is popular because it has a good price / quality ratio. However, DDR4 is becoming increasingly popular. DDR4 is generally somewhat faster, but also a bit more expensive. DDR3 is not compliant with DDR4, and vice versa. DDR3 is also available as DDR3L: it works at a lower voltage. DDR3L slots do support DDR3 RAM, but DDR3 locks do not support DDR3L RAM.

How many memory do I need?

  • For normal use (browsing, edit documents, Youtube, reading e-mails, and so on) we recommend 4 GB.
  • For intensive use (business or school), we recommend to choose at least 8 GB.
  • For gaming purposes we recommend to use at least 12 or 16 GB.
  • For CAD/CAM 3D editing programs, we recommend to use at least 32 GB.
